Brake fluid

Hi Steve

The brit car shop I use here only stocks and recommends Castrol GT LMA brake fluid. They say they have had problems with others.

It's my understanding that only DOT-4 should be used.....not DOT-3. The LMA fluid is DOT-4. I've heard this from the parts guy at Moss Motors as well as from others. Not sure of the actual reason.
Sythetic fluid is also said to be OK, but ONLY if the system is fully purged of old fluid.
 
apple hydrolics told me not to use dot5 fluid it wasnt compatible with their rebuilt mc's and dot 5 is more compressable than dot 3 or 4 and costs more at that. dot 5 wont eat away at paint and doesnt absorb as much water if any.
 
the age old question....might try a search here. Expect the old DOT 3 or 4 vs LMA vs DOT 5 Silicone debate is in here somewhere.
 
Thanks for all the help, I am finishing the car to day and will be driving tonight. If anyone here is in the Ohio area, there is a British car show at Easton Town Center in Columbus Sunday, May 17 from 9 till 4; about 200 cars of all types and sizes; really a nice show. If anyone from the forum comes I'll be in the B row that shares with GTs. Red 1970 with new rear brakes.
