Brake fluid and paint damage

Not to hjiak the other discussion but on the subject of paint damage from any fluids, I wonder if putting on a piece of clear bra under the m/c bracket would help manage the leakage.

I have 3M Scotchcal/Gard on all of my modern cars front-ends and it does a great job stopping rock chips. But since it is clear it would be virutally undetectable around the base of the TRs fluid reservoirs.

It is also easily replaceable if it gets ruined.

Just talked myself into it on my next re-do.

that sounds like a great idea, and I believe the top of the line 3M stuff is resistant to most auto and aviation fluids.

I would cover the area with the cyls off and make the appropriate holes in the film....try to cover as much as you can w/ one sheet (no seams) as Dot3/4 seems to have an incredible ability to wick and creep.

I may try this one. w

When I do brake fluid work, I also always cut off a piece of TV-Sham-Wow to quickly absorb any spills.

That might work if you noticed it right away. I went to DOT5 after my can and brake housing leaked (TR3). The DOT4 traveled down the clutch/brake levers into the cabin. Had to pull both housings, the complete pedal box etc to clean up and repaint everything....sooner or later they leak and the design lends itself to paint catastrophe
