Can type B or C front brake calipers be used in place of the A type on a 58 TR3A? I am helping a friend restore his TR3A and his calipers are in very bad shape and the A type doesn't seem to be as available as the B or C type.

I was unaware there are more than one type of disc brake calipers on the TR3/3A/3B.

There are three different types. The early cars had the A type and later cars had the B type. I believe the TR3B and TR4 had the C type.

You need to match the mount that the calipers attach to to the type of caliper and there were also a couple different sized brake discs. Then comes the shield to the inside of the disc is different on the B and C.
If you use a Moss catalog you can cross reference the various parts to the years.

Thanks Charley. I know the dust covers are different for each type of caliper and I believe the A and B both use a 10" disc, but I will check the Moss catalog for more details.

Very interesting! This is a topic that I don't recall coming up since I have joined the forum.

Hi Ted. Just saw your posting on the Forum. Have you tried contacting AppleHydraulics.com in Calverton, NY, they have rebuilt Type A Calipers. The Moss catalog carries the bridge pipe p/n 588-590.

Thanks. I found a set of A calipers that have been rebuilt already.
