TR2/3/3A Brake caliper corrosion

Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah all!

I disassembled my front brake calipers, and discovered some corrosion on the cylinder walls. Photo attached. Need some advice on how to proceed: send them out (who still rebuilds?) or clean up with emery cloth? Needless to say, all four pistons need to be replaced. Thanks all, Jim

As I respond to my own thread... looks like Apple Hydraulics rebuilds....
 
Jim,
The bore of the caliper does nothing, the only important part is where the seal sits. As long as that area isn't so bad that the seal can't fill the gaps, I would just clean up the corrosion with a bit of brass or steel wool and proceed with new seals & pistons.
 
Like Randall said, the caliper bore does nothing as far as sealing.
Remove any loose rust debris from the corroded area that could damage the caliper piston seal.
As long as the seal groove is not damaged you are good to go.

I also have to back up Randall on this. As long as the groove has no corrosion, it should be fine. Just replace the rubber bits and the piston, if it's not perfectly smooth.

With a LBC, you have plenty of stuff to spend your money on. Don't spend it on anything unnecessary.
