Brake Adjuster Failure Pictures

Here is what actually happened. The studs just came out and there are virtually no threads left. I can assure you that these were NOT over-torqued because I took the other side off and they were tight, but certainly not stripped or over tightened.

My original Girling's are rebuilt with a thin coating over Never Seize inside on the pistons and the housing and on the adjuster threads and we're back on the road to the body shop.

This could have been a lot worse. I've been told by some on 6-Pack that they're gone through multiple sets of these from all of the Big Three, as they all use the same source.

Paul-

Disturbing photos. Did those replacements come in Rover boxes? I bought some new ones a while ago, Rover labeled, and I hope I don't ever have this issue.

Randy

Andy,

No branding or logo or name on any of the castings. Girling's are clearly marked as shown below.

EDIT: Sorry!

Randy,

No Rover boxes. I did read somewhere that those were good units.

Paul: Did you contact your "source" yet? I did , but have not received a call back about the bad clutch hose. Maybe they'll be at the Glen? I'll bring the defective part with me and bring it to their booth for "show and tell"!!!

Possibly a safer mounting procedure than trusting studs.

Google "flat head bolts"

.

Paul,

Couldn't you just Heli-coil the adjusters and reinstall using SS hex head bolts?

I know it may seem like over kill but thats how I roll.

Dane,

Welcome to the Forum. I sure could do just that and I probably will (just to keep these as spares) after I take them apart and make sure that the threaded portion that the adjuster rides in is OK.

The point of the whole thing is that this should have never happened at 1,200 miles or even 12,000 miles. I almost ruined a brand new Alfin aluminum drum, let alone the potential to lock up or lose brakes altogether.

Frank,

My source is reviewing the pictures, but denies having similar issues. Now in fairness to them , they may not have been notified of the issue from others who allegedly had the same problem. I have not confirmed any contact, therefore I don't feel that it's fair to name names until this is sorted out a bit more.

Hey, if it's a fluke and they make it right, well stuff happens and we move on.

No one here has yet confirmed a personal similar issue, so I'll wait to compare notes when they do.
