braided fabric fuel line cover

The fuel line (pump to carb) on my 1960 M-B is a fabric covered steel pipe. The pipe and fittings are excellent. The braided fabric sleeve - sad.

Here's a photo of what I'm looking for:

The pipe OD is 0.5"; length about 3 feet. So the replacement braided sleeve would just need to slide over the pipe.

Does anyone know a source for a braided fabric sleeve that would fit over the pipe? I find several "braided pipes" at $100+, but I only need the sleeve.

Thanks.

Is the fabric material important? MMC sells braided sleeve like that, but it's made of plastic and doesn't look the same as cotton. You can see some examples here

Thanks Randall. I'd prefer a black sleeve of braided fabric, or high temp plastic; the fuel line runs around the front of the head, across the water pump, and above the manifold. Heat might be a problem, and I doubt I'll find a metal braided sleeve.

One side aspect: trying to find 3 feet of a product is tough. Most seem available only in 50 or 100 foot rolls.

Thanks.

See if you can find boot laces

worth a try - not like there is a lot of investment involved.

The stuff I used is just polyester, rated to 257F (which seemed like enough to me); but they have a variety of materials available. For example, they have Halar (300F), PEEK (500F) and even fiberglass is available in black and rated to 1200F. Minimum length only 5 feet.

If that won't do, they have woven silica (2300F), ceramic (2800F) and even stainless steel (unrated), but you'll have to find your own paint that will stand up to those temperatures

Randall - that is excellent. Thanks for the link. I never even thought to look for "sleeving" - just looked for braided wrap. To quote a famous American: "doh!".

Thanks.

Tom, We had a vapor lock problem when in Gatlinburg back in 2006 at the MG show. While in town in slow traffic, the ashphalt was so hot the vapor lock problem persisted. I found that the fuel line that goes behind the engine was getting too hot, so I temporally wrapped it up in some new shop rags I had with me. When back home I ordered, from all places, J.C.Whitney, some Black fabric heat resisting tubing and put it on the fuel line. We've never had that problem arise since. Speed shops sells it also for race cars and it usually comes in colors. Here's a photo of it on the 72. PJ

A closer shot.
