I am detailing my engine compartment before my new engine goes in and noticed a half round bracket about 3 inches long attached to the frame behind the drivers side steering rack mount , what is it for?? (just curious)

You got a pic?

Re: Bracket in tr6 engine compartment--what is it

sorry no picture, but Mine is a 71 and the bracket is a half round tapered pipe looking thing maby about 2 --2 1/2" long sitting right behind the driver side rack mount, you can see it with the engine in, I just never paid attention to it before now. It is a factory bracket.

Re: Bracket in tr6 engine compartment--what is it

I've been told that that bracket is to prevent (or at least somewhat hinder) movement of the steering rack and column from getting pushed back toward the driver in a frontal crash.
