I hope everyone in the Great White North is not totally frozen in, here I sit in sunny south Florida at 8:15 am and it is a very breezy 45*!!! The wind chill makes it feel like 32*...I expected to see ice on the pool! Definitly NOT fl. weather!!!! Brrrrr! At the same time yesterday the temp. was almost double todays'!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

32 degrees is not cold.........quite balmy in comparison.

We woke up to 8* and light snow, with wind chills of -7*

When the snow creaks when you walk on it, that is a good indication of cold temperatures.

It's all relative, isn't it?

Try living in Northern Minnesota, When I lived there, we would almost have killed for a 32 degree day in January.

BTW, you can get an idea of how cold it is by two things. The higher the pitch when snow is walked on, the colder it is. Also, the lower the smoke from a chimney, the colder it is.

It all depends on how thin ones tropicalized blood gets as to how cold it feels Steve...all is relative! It was 80+* here yesterday, thats quite a variable from today that makes it feel MUCH colder!!

Cold is relative. 32 is cold to someone used to a low or 55, just like 90 is hot to someone used to a high of 70. I've been shivering at 40 even though I wasn't shivering at 20 when I was used to it. Likewise I've been sweating me arse off at 80 even though when I'm used to Summer heat, I don't sweat much at 100 and above.

Hehe - sure it is. It gets like this nearly every year. Last January we had a couple of days with lows in the 30s. Valentine's Day '06 it was near freezing at night at Disney World for a few nights (I was there, we brought heavy winter coats and gloves).

There's another element to that too. Folks 'round here are used to it being rather "moderate". It can be 30 outside and some will insist on living as if they're in a tropical paradise, wearing flipflops and t-shirts. Others make an effort, but still only have light jackets then complain about the cold.

It's cold here on the island also. 72*F this morning
and so cold I had to put on sweats to keep warm. We
do not have heaters in our homes. Long pants, socks and sweatshirt winter weather- yuck!

Buurrrr Cooooold!!

d

Right now it's 17º with the wind chill but tomorrow AM is expected to be below 0º. So much for living on an Island.

Like Steve said, cold is relative. 72 is shorts and t-shirt weather for me.

Cold? Cold??? Cold???

It was 1*F when I left for work this moring...with a wind chill of -20*F.

But I live in Illinois....it is supposed to be almost 50*F in a few daze.

I can't see the ice on my pool either, Because of the 2 ft of snow on top of it. It was -22C with the windchill here this morning. and it is 70 here now------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ IN THE HOUSE LOL /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Not as cold as you Northerners, but 45 high today w/breeze is cold to me. Going down to 22 tonite in Charleston, SC. 2days ago it was 68!

We talk degrees alot on this forum either weather or timing.

Holding down alt167 = the Degree symbol º

Holding down alt164 = the accent in my name ñ

Try then all and you'll be suprised what you get. ☺

Well, it's now 8 "alt167" F here in St.Joseph...we're having a heat wave!

BTW.....the "alt - 167" did'nt work for me. Maybe it's only in MS Word, etc? ...Unless, of course, what we have here is a stereotypical example of "PEBKAS" *

* Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Seat

hold down the ALT key and hit the 1, the 6, then the 7 keys on your numeric keypad (not the one on top of the keyboard).

I don't have a numeric keypad on the laptop.

I'll try it on a different computer sometime.

Glad to know it was not PEBKAS.

Too many steps! 1 stroke should do it! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

There might be a way to remap a key on a standard keyboard to the ° symbol, but I've never done it.

A lot of laptops have a numeric keypad mapped into the regular keys (they're on the keys as gold or blue numbers). In those cases I think you can hold the fn button while doing the ALT-167 deal. That truly is a pain, but if you know how to do it, it beats opening the character map and doing a copy-paste.

BLARGH!!!

Once again, the Nanook of the North folks have sent a
powerful cold wave aimed right at my little island.
Enough is enough, already!! These evil deeds must be
halted immediately.

It's bad enough I'm forced into long pants and socks
and a sweatshirt but the huge ocean waves generated by
the cold front are even giving the cruise ships pause
for concern.

So once again, no fishing for me!!
My 18' boat in 12' to 15' seas?
Davy Jones here we come!

Drats!!!
