TR2/3/3A Boot Seal, TR-3A

Hi All:
I'm sure there is a right way and a wrong way to install the boot seal. Can someone give me a clue? Also should I put it on with some adhesive? Seems to be very loosy goosy.

Is your car a pre- or post- TS60000 car. The boot seal fits in an channel in the earlier cars and onto a lip on the later ones. I used glue for my TS36000 car, but not for my later one. Not sure where the join should be, but I put mine at the top where it is less likely to be knocked.
 
I used rubber cement to hold the seal in the channnel. There's probably better stuff but it's what I had on the shelf at the time. At the joint I cut the seal in half so the one end overlapped the top of the bottom half on the opposite end. I put the joint at the upper left driver side. No particular reason why I just happened to start and of course end it there. I'm sure Don will know where the joint originally was.
 
My TR3A is an early one - TS 27489 LO. I still have the bits and pieces of my original trunk (boot) lid seal in my garage. The seal was originally sealed into the channel with a rubber cement. There were two joints, in the upper right and left corners, just to the right and left of the hinges. When I put a new one in in 1990 as I was finishing my restoration, I did exactly as Harry describes with a stepped overlap joint. By matching the steps, the top of the seal stayed flat and flush.

I put it in and thought that someday, I'd get around to putting in the rubber cement, But I never did. And I found out that it can't go anywhere with the lid closed. And when I get to a concours show, I can whip it out, chean it like new, wipe out the channels and then put it back - all in a jiffy.

However about two years ago after driving in a rain storm, I found that I was getting water in the boot. Because the rubber seal had never been glued into the channel. it was receding or shrinking in length and now it was getting shorter at both ends of both pieces, so the stepped joints were leaving gaps which allow the water to get in. I plan to buy a new length of seal.
 
If your TR3A is a post TS 60000 late TR3A or a TR3B, the seal is different as Nick says and it is left as one piece with the joint at the bottom just below the chrome handle for the boot lid.
