Boot Liner - BJ8

Can anyone confirm the material and color of the boot liner/carpet used in BJ8 phase 1? The concours guidelines and two reference books (Clausager and Piggot) state that the BJ8 was finished in black armacord. When I bought my car in 2011, it came with very old black carpet - sufficiently old that I assumed it was original....

I’ve never seen a carpeted boot except when done by a owner as a substitute to the original material or going for a custom look.

For what its worth I'm pretty sure it is suppose to be black armacord. By BJ7 had black armacord when I bought it and I am still using it. Unfortunately I have no pictures of it at the moment. I am of the same persuasion as Patrick that I have never seen a carpeted boot in any Healey unless it was installed by the owner.

No shag carpet here just plain 'ol black armacord. It's also possible the PO carpeted over the original armacord on your car. Worth checking first. If needed, get fitted kit(s) from the usual suppliers and make sure all exposed edges are finished and bound.

Thanks - I have checked under the carpet and definitely no armacord. I am contemplating a kit from Ahead for Healeys. Has anyone used this kit?

I have used the one from John Skinner in the UK and it worked out quite nice.
Before and after pics, used the instructions from Rich Chrysler

Hi Steve,

As I remember, the boot of the phase 1 BJ8 was finished in Armacord layed (not glued) over the fuel tank and glood on the forward panel and two sided panels. There was a cheap looking piece of leather-grain imprinted cardboard folded around the 2 sides and screwed into the fuel filler housing. An equally cheap looking piece of thin vinyl heat-formed for a battery cover and the base of the spare tire securing rod was covered with a piece of leather-grained vinyl material. All vinyl coverings and other, along with the Armacord coverings and flooring were Black in color.

Hope this helps,

Steve, it looks like you're in Ontario.
Call up Autofarm and get the kit from them, (519) 356-2427.
https://autofarm.net/
They are a great bunch and specialize in Healeys.
Best of all the shipping is cheaper. no customs hassles and you pay in CAD.
I bought the kit from them and it went in easily and looks great.

when I did my new liner, getting the old contact cement off was tough. First I tried solvents, but if was a mess and didn't work very well.
what really did the job was buying this:
https://www.amazon.com/Closed-Rubbe...polyethylene+foam&qid=1573239430&sr=8-11&th=1
and attaching it to this:
https://www.amazon.com/3M-5-Inch-Sa...ords=drill+sander+disc&qid=1573239739&sr=8-12
That took all of it off quite fast. I went through four foam pads to do the entire trunk.
This might work too:
https://www.amazon.com/TCP-Global-R...+drill+adhesive+remover&qid=1573239878&sr=8-5
