Boot Floor Refinishing

Today, I was cleaning out the boot, getting rid of twenty years of dirt, grit and stuff. The floor has some pretty significant rust. Nothing that goes through, but the surface is pitted pretty well.

I was thinking of using POR15 to kill the rust, but I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether to use something like bedliner, which should leave a bit of texture to help conceal some of the bumpy stuff.

Many thanks for opinions, insults or ridicule.

POR15, then paint to match the rest of the car. If you plan to carpet, then just POR15. I can't stand bed liner. I think it looks bad, and when it gets old it can become brittle, crack and let water underneath. POR15 will never have that problem and even if it scratches (good luck), the rust wont be able to migrate to other areas.

1965_MGB,

I have used a product called Rust Doctor on my A and my B to some success. You clean the area with a stiff brush, paint the stuff on, let it dry for 24 hours, sand and paint....

I have no experience with the POR15...

Pickle the rust with a rust killer- the names escape me
(some type of acid) after getting as much rust scuffed and cleaned up with a wire brush. Then use the POR 15.

Good luck

POR is the way to go. I used it on the trunk of my other car and the tub of both my cars and it works great and will soon use it to do the underside and trunk of my 73. Once that stuff drives its very very tough.

Word of advice check you face for splatter in the mirror the second your done as once it dries it's going to be there for a while. But thats still better than having this happen Herculiner on your hootus

Yeah, yeah, something like that is funny until it happens to YOU.......no, wait, it's funny then too!!!! LOL
