My 1960 BE recently returned from the paint shop and we are in the process of putting the car back together. So, this should begin the first of a number of questions:

- I have a new bonnett seal. It is square with the exception of one side, which is v-shaped.

How do I install this?

Frank said that the last one he bought seemed too wide. I think his solution was to stretch it so that it would fit down in the channel. Then I think someone else reported doing a careful trimming. Oh... the V-goes up ... I think.
 
V goes up. Stretching it when installing it takes care of the too wide but once installed, mine was too tall. It was also pretty hard so the bonnet wouldn't go flush with the cowl. I threw it away and built the groove up with layers of a good automotive weatherstripping until the bonnet was flush. Since then I talked to a local restorer that said he glues the strip (V down) to a piece of steel and uses a belt sander to shave it down.

It is too hard to fit and make a proper seal.
 
Gentlemen:

I'm still totally lost. Where on the car do I attach tthe seal? Does it go on the bonnett or the body? What holds it in place? Should it have a groove cut in it so it will attach?

Jack: Since you seem to take a negative view of the seal, have you gone without one? Did you do something different?

It goes on the body. There is a lip on the top of the fire wall. I used the same one that Moss sells and fit it in. Made a mistake, put the v down. Haven't put the bonnet on to see how far it sticks up yet.
 
I think I've got the idea now.

One reason I've been puzzled it that the Moss and VB catalogues point to the bottom of the bonnet as the location of the seal. I'm familiar with the section of the firewall to which you are referring, I just was unsure if that was a water channel.

No problem. Let me know what you figure out. because I am waiting for the bonnet to be finished and fitted on the car, I have not reached the point of whether or not it will fit like I have it. I am interested to see if you can get it to fit properly and how you do it.
