Bonnet Steel versus Aluminum

I am working on the restoration of a 64 MGB. In the process of stripping the panels for paint I have found the steel bonnet full of bondo at the nose, and the curve front to rear on the passenger side is not right. This car should have an aluminum hood but finding a used one in good shape is not easy, and I can get a steel Reproduction bonnet at a reasonable price. My question is should I continue to search for the aluminum bonnet or settle for the steel one? Has anyone had a bad experience with the reproduction hoods?

Frank -

I have an alum. bonnet, and will be in your area in a couple weeks...

PM me for details.

Just my $.02 of course, but I have heard that even if you pony up the price for an aluminum bonnet, there will probably be some damage that will need to be fixed, since it has traveled a bit to get to the US.

If you are working on a runner, and not a trailer queen, then there is really nothing wrong with a decent steel bonnet. But then again, if Mickey can hook you up with a good aluminum bonnet, then I would go for that.

Frank,
If you're interested and in Orlando for anything, I have an aluminum hood you can have for free. It needs some work tho.

Needs a bonnet, not a hood. lol
