bonnet hinges

i was trying to put the hinges back on the bonnet of my b-gt, but when the holes line up there is a gap of about 1.5 inches between the rear of the bonnet and the body?? could the previous owner have given me hinges for the wrong kind of mg? my catalogs only list one bonnet hinge for all b's.

Only 1 hinge for B...when you set the hood up to the bonnet & start the bolts, stick a nail or domething through the little center hole in the hinge/bonnet assembly - that'll help align it.

perhaps i was unclear about the gap. when i bolted the bonnet to the hinges it was forward of the position it is supposed to be in leaving a horizontal gap between the body and the bonnet near the base of the windscreen. it sits quite nicely on the car otherwise, that and the pins used to secure the front of the bonnet are about 1.5 inches in the wrong place. I have a spare bonnet, it has the same gap. I think that I'll end up slotting the holes in the hinges to allow the bonnet to slide back into position.

Did you remove the hinges from their original position? Look at another set of hinges and determine if your hinges are bent down and/or in the right position. Lord only knows how this could happen, but there's no way they should be that far off. As Tony said, put a nail or small pin in the little hole in the hinge and hood. If nothing has been changed from where they were originally located, the hood should fit very close to it's final position. If it doesn't, then you have another problem. You should not have to re-slot the holes to make it fit properly. JMHO. PJ

just get another set of hinges. the holes in my original hinges were slotted. i replaced them with another used set and they lined up fine.

WHEW!! Another DPO issue resolved....somebody had been fiddling back when!

i guess i'll find a new set of hinges. one of the previous owners removed the hinges, prop and front latch and installed pins throught the bonnet. kind of nice to work on the car because you can lift the entire bonnet off to work in the engine bay. the problem is that the rear of the bonnet flutters (it's not attached) when road speed is over about 40 mph so i don't go on the highway.

Why in the world would someone remove the rear hood hinges on a car that has perfect access to the engine bay with everything in place?
