Bonnet hinge. How do they attach at firewall.

Again for a 1960 Bugeye with stock steel bonnett.
How are the hinges for the bonnet secured at the firewall end?

All of a sudden when I was lifting the bonnett the left hinge (cars left side) came free, sort of moving forward like whatever was keeping it in place in that recess in the firewall wasn't holding it anymore. It took two of us to get the bonnet to close properly. One lowering the bonnett down again and the other pulling back on the guard/fender to keep the alignment right.

Don't know what to do now as it's really a two person job to get the bonnett up, as if it wasn't a crappy enough design to start with now it's worse.

Time to convert to a forward tilt bonnet and be done with that. With the help from a simple 2 point lift made from some rope and pulleys I've suspended from the ceiling of my garage getting the bonnett on/off becomes a 7 minute job with one person. 2 are better but I do it all the time by myself.
