Bonnet hinge holes

One of the most frustrating parts of my markIV restoration is fitment/gap of the bonnet to the fenders. The front valence is a replacement part and one fender is from an MG. The overall gaps are close but the bonnet sits to the left and even with the hinge bolts loose, it looks like the hinge holes need to be drilled/enlarged to get the right gaps. The hinge holes are factory and it kills me to enlarge them to get the right fit. Is it common to enlarge the holes and are there any other recommendations to get the right gap without drilling larger holes. BTW, the hinges are not damaged to repair welded. Thanks

Do you have the side buffers installed on the fenders?

Was the fender replaced due to accident damage or rust? I'm wondering if your hinges are tweaked.

There is no accident damage to the frame. It looks like, with the fenders removed, the hood lines up proper with the front valance but once the fenders are installed the hood drops to the right side fender about 1/2". I can close the hood if I pull it over but I know that will mean scratched paint later on. I will just have to keep tweaking the fenders until I get the best gap I can. My sprite is a conglomeration of parts from various cars so I wouldn't expect all my gaps to be good especially since I was told that even out of the factory, some gaps were not proper. I will probably consider enlarging the holes just a bit to see if that helps. Thanks Trevor.
