TR6 Bolting TR6 Seats to the car

I finally got to bolt my seats back in to the car after taking them out to tackle my clutch issues months ago. I bolted them back in as they came out, but it seems that they don't go back as far as I would expect - then it occurred to me that the previous owner might have bolted them in wrong - there are two holes on each runner (rear) and two holes on the base of the seat, so my question is, which holes should I be using? I don't think there is any option with the runner holes, as the holes only seemed to line up one way. How much space should there be between the back of the seat and the rear end of the floorboard? With the seats fully back on the slides I still have over 6 inches before the vertical part to the back shelf (no idea what the right terms are!) That space would seem more useful to a fairly tall chap like me if it were in front of the seat!

Thanks in advance if anyone can tell me which holes are right!

Unfortunately, that is one of the TR6's short comings. The TR3 and TR4 offered much more driver's leg room than the TR6.
I've never really studied which holes they go into, as long as the bolt holes line up and the seat release catches
 
bash, just set the sets were you want them, as long as it doesn't interfere with the top and re drill the holes to your liking. If the holes line up in the frame tap it to the right size and away you go. Your setbelt holds you in not the set itself.
 
Bash:
Be sure the stand offs that go between the seat frame rails and carpet/insulation metal floor are installed. Other wise the seat will hit the carpet before reaching the end of the rails. I'm 6'2", or use to be, and never had problems with leg room in the '74 TR6
 
Just finished the drivers side of my 250 after doing the floors & seat belts, there actually is an offset on the runners & the seat frame that allow them to move forward & back without interferring with the tunnel & door post.

I will look at mine when I get home & let you know. I got the info from the 6 pack mailing list, I'll see if I can find it for you. One other important thing, are you sure the bolts through the rail are not interferring with the top of the slider? I can move my seat all the way back to where it hits the wheel arch & my wife (read short) can move far enough up to reach the pedals..

The seat runners driver and passenger on my 1971 are identical but are
mounted differently on drivers vs. passenger side. Same for the seat mounting
as
well as there are two holes on the front seat frame. The rear mounting bolts
for the seat runner has two holes and you have to get it right, however, the
front is only one hole per side.

Driver seat runner:
The outer rear bolt on the runner should be in the front hole. The inner
rear bolt on the runner should be in the rear hole.

Driver seat mounting:
The outer bolt attaching the seat should be in the front hole. The inner
bolt attaching the seat should be in the rear hole.

Passenger runner:
The outer rear bolt on the runner should be in the front hole. The inner re
ar bolt on the runner should be in the rear hole.

Passenger seat mounting:
The outer bolt attaching the seat should be in the front hole. The inner
bolt attaching the seat should be in the rear hole.

The mis matching of the mounting holes adds enough angle to the runner and
seat to allow proper clearance for the side tilt up lever to the B-post.

to the effect that they should not be installed parallel, otherwise the seat
will not go back all the way. I'm in
the process of reinstalling my freshly rebuilt seats and was wondering if
you guys could elaborate on the placement of
the rails. At least in my case, the rails have multiple holes for the bolts
to go through, so I want to make sure I
bolt them down the right way.

Thanks for the information - that's just what I needed! It looks like I guessed the right bolt holes, but I'll have to check the bolts holding the catches to the back of the rails - I used the same size hardware as the DPO put in the bag with the catches, but that doesn't mean a lot!

That's the beauty of this & many hobbies since the net. Back when I started in LBC's we had to call a friend or wait for a monthly meeting of the club at the local Pub to get the answers & then we'd usually forget the answers from all the ale!! lol.
