Does anyone know the size of the bolt that goes in the back of the cylinder head on a TR6? I'm looking for the one that the auxiliary oil line would replace. I can't find my original and I need a replacement in order to remove this line to see if my sudden oil consumption disappears as quickly as it arrived.

I need thread and length.

Never mind, I found a spare banjo bolt that I had for the oil line. It will be 5/16 X 24 X 1/2 of thread below head.

I created this oil problem. I put the #$%* line on to better lube the engine. I'm lubing it better all right. Right out the tailpipe!

Oh yeah, the bolt spec. That was easy.

I have some spare trailing arms in case Dale wants them, so it's up to him at this point.

Ya, I've had days where the hurrier I go, the behinder I get.
So is the oil leaking, or being burnt in the engine? By the way, the carbs look great!!!

Its being pulled down past the valve stems. If he were using a cast aluminum manifold he would also be pulling it through the carbs, especially with the triples. Been there, though the carbs never sucked oil from the valve cover for me when I still had twin carbs. Only when I went to the triples. Valve stem seals stopped the other for me.
 
Shawn, I have to disagree a bit on this one, at least for now.

I have NO build up on my valves and my manifold had a lot of oil in it when we took it off. Look at the pictures and notice the stains on the paper and you will see the paper has a lot of oil drained out. That is not gas, it's oil.

I never had an oil consumption problem until I installed the line. Leaks, yes, consumption, no. But if this doesn't work, I guess that it may be time to order the Goodparts valve springs and seals.

This will tell the tale on a few hundred miles and it's a cheap and easy test.

Have ya'll considered the GoodParts oil separator? I suck (let me rephrase that, my engine sucks) by the three carbs, from the valve cover, through the separator and dump the drippings into the pan via a welded-on bung. And I have the external oil line. There is no smoke from my exhausts and the spark plugs are a nice, light tan.

No problem there Paul.

I only experienced oil being pulled through the carbs when I moved to triple carbs and was still using a cast aluminum valve cover. When I went back to a stock cover with a baffle, the oil was no longer getting pulled through the carbs. Does your baffle have any packing in it? There should be some stainless steel wool in the baffle, not just a plate.

I was thinking of going the seperator route as Bill mentioned but don't need to now that I no longer have that problem. If I go back to a cast aluminum cover though...

There is no packing in the valve cover, but there is a baffle. Simplest route for now is to pull the line off and drive it for a while. If it stops, I'm fine. If not look elsewhere.

I had no problem with this cover on the car before the oil line was installed.

That baffle is supposed to have some stainless steel wool packing. Not a critical thing though. I don't doubt that you didn't have an issue until you added the second line. Not much oil gets up there othewise and truthfully the external line throws too much up there.

The deed is done. I have to get some packing next and pull the valve cover to pack it in.

Then a few hundred miles and we'll see what's next.

We used to use copper or brass pot scrubbers for that type of packing on the racecar. You can crunch it fairly tight and in theory its a softer metal if some gets to where it shouldn't be.

Thanks Tom. Not a bad idea. I wish that I had a little mesh filter that would fit over the V/C pipe, inside the vacuum hose, to trap anything that could get loose and pulled in.

Hmmmm. Maybe that's something available somewhere??

I think that I'll add a clear in line filter just to see what getting sucked through there.

If it fills with oil, I've found my problem.

If it doesn't and I don't use anymore oil, I hit a home run.

If it doesn't and I use oil, time for valve seals.
