A good friend of mine/customer , needed a good tank for his tr4 project that was nearing completion.
I told him that I had one he could have as it was full of varnish/old dried up gas and needed a lot of cleaning
to be of any use at all. It looked good outside but still had the last 10 gallons dried into sludge.
Home goes "Gary" and puts it right into his car, thinking that fresh gas will fix all. He started his freshly
done motor and attempted to do the break in. All the valves stuck open in 5 minutes, making it necessary to
pull the head to clean it up.
The second time he started it , same result. It finally dawned on him that varnish was as deadly as I had told him it was.
Finally he cleaned up the tank and fixed the head again and was OK.
No moral to the story ,other than to never trust smelly, stale fuel !! Nor a free part that comes with a warning.
