TR4/4A Body tub differences - TR4/4A

I apologize in advance if this has been answered before but I couldn't find it in a search. Before I reach for my wallet in a pending deal can anyone tell me if there are any appreciable differences between the TR4 and TR4A BODY TUB?

Thanks!

Brian

Frame to body mounts in the floor board area are the only ones that come to mind right now. They are only off a little if I remember correctly. Its been done before.

Emergency brake is different between the cars. TR4 on the floor and TR4A on top of the drive line tunnel. Also if you ever want to use a surrey top the holes on the top of the rear cowl are slightly different at the second hole from the front on each side. So I am guessing that the rear capping is different. I know that the convertible top frame is different between the cars but I don't know if the attachment is different. The early TR4 uses a different door stop than the later TR4s and 4A's So the early door does not have the mounting the same as the later door. I have never heard of anybody converting the systems but it should be possible. For myself I decided that if I needed a door I would look hard for the type that I needed.

Charley's right about the E brake but that can be cut off. You can swap the windshield frame and keep the original conv top frame. Rear capping will fit as well. I like the 4a top assembly better . Door latches won't matter as long as they work.

Yes door latches don't matter but the problem is it will take a bit of work to convert from one to the other as they are VERY different. The later door stop is the preferable one as the early one was a short term ( I think-- failure). The later one is more like the TR3 door stop and it continued on into the TR6 production.
Brian you never said which way the swap was going. Which is the new donor body?

The reason I was asking was that I was looking for a better tub for my 4A restoration. The one I currently have needs too much metal work (not rust repair but fixing repairs that were done by someone who shouldn't have owned a welder). I found a tub out of state but the PO didn't know what year it was, 4 or 4A. I wanted to confirm the differences before I committed to buying it. I drove from Michigan to Ohio today to buy it ... turns out it's a 4A so all is good! Not only that, but it's virtually rust-free and straight ... a rare find indeed!

Thank you all for the feedback.

Thanks Marv. I really lucked out. This tub is rust-free and beautiful!
