Body Number Plate Replacement

Does anyone know of a source for replacement/reproduction body number plates using the correct, original font for the numerals?

I know that there are reproduction Car No. plates (VIN plates) available, and reproduction engine number plates available, but I can't recall seeing a replacement body number plate. As a plain rectangular piece of metal it is easy to make the plate, but the key is to get the original font and size punches for stamping the numerals into it.

Thanks for any help.

Clarke Spares did mine for my BJ8 and I'm happy with the quality.

To be really correct the body tag should have hand-cut edges and be only approximately rectangular. The edges still have the serrated pattern from aviation tinsnips. If that sort of stuff interests you. Andy.

Thanks guys. I knew that Clarke Spares made reproduction Car No. plates and engine number plates, but I didn't know that they also supplied body number plates. The trick on body number plates is not the plate but the font of the numerals. I'll be most impressed if they are able to match the original font of the numerals used on BN1/BN2 body number plates.

That is a very scary thought if they can, especially with the 100M. Will they stamp anything?
You must have proof that you own the car and that may include the need to see a copy of the title - in my case a Letter from the BJ8 Registry since my vin plates did not match my RH shock tower numbers. Clarke Spares will tell you exactly what you need to have. He won't just stamp anything!

I supplied Todd with a picture of the font for my car and he matched it. I'll have to look carefully for the aviation tin snip marks...

Anybody have a source for the chassis number plate for the BN1? I have the plastic number plate on the kick panel, the engine number plate, and the body batch plate but one of the numerous POs stripped the frame and powder coated it and all that is left is the 2 holes.

Hi Marv, I guess you mean this plate. I have never seen a replacement its difficult to copy as the text "Chassis " is raised. I talked with Todd at Clarke Spares but they could not help. The plate is peculiar to early BN1's as I remember.

For sale on eBay, and somehow I don't like it ...

Dougal is correct, the plate is only found on early BN1s with pre-unified numbers. But I have seen later, unified number cars with the holes in the top of the chassis rail but no plate. Perhaps Marv J's car is such a car?
The body/batch plate that Reid enquired about was missing from my car, so I made one. I knew the body number from the cockpit surround. With a bit of research of other cars in our club I reckon I got the batch number right. The dies I used to stamp the numbers are an incorrect font, but originally, these plates must have been made by the first-year apprentices at Jensen so they are not very tidily done!
