Bob Hope & Jimmy Cagney

Dang, Bob could hoof with the best of them. But Cagney looked like his legs had no bones!

What movie was that from? And why don't they make movies like that anymore?

I believe that is "The Seven Little Foys" with Hope playing the father to a performing family. Despite those who remember him thinking of Cagney being a gangster character type, he was a much a song and dance man in his prime.

Bob Hope has not aged well. Some of his early movies were funny but his act had worn a bit thin in later years. And he was a notorious womanizer. Dolores spent many lonely nights alone.

I've read too, that he was very open in front of her and others that off screen he ran around. I do respect his USO service over the decades, but someone I'd want as a friend.

He wouldn't be the first otherwise renowned personality in history to have exploits outside the home. (more than one past President come to mind). Nevertheless, he did a tremendous service with his shows and I recall my dad, who saw him in Vietnam, always liked the guy.

We probably shouldn't judge others too harshly. A lot of otherwise upright people have their failings.

Oh yes, childhood friend of mine ran around on his wife when she was pregnant years ago, cried on my shoulder during the divorce, drunk at a reunion, that she didn't understand he couldn't be seen with a "fat" woman and when she'd delivered and got back in shape he had intended to return. I made the remark that she wasn't a fat woman but near the end of carrying their child and he had been completely unreasonable. And that if he was going to behave that way, I hoped she took him for every dime she could get. Took him years to grow up and speak to me again.

How about we get it back on the rails, please. Two great showmen - Hope and Cagney. I knew Cagney was a great dancer, but I don't think I ever realized that Hope was as good a hoofer as he obviously was.

Cagney was an excellent dancer and all around entertainer. It's kinda a shame that he's usually remembered as a tough guy more than anything else.
