I just got my 5 speed gearbox kit from the guys in north carolina. But before doing any work I would apreciate any pictures of a finished car, special to see where finally the gearbox lever finally is located.....
My fear is the final location of the lever.....
Thanks in advance,

Unless the kit has been changed from the Smitty days you have two or three options.

My wife's BN7 has a five-speed kit whch was installed when we bought the car. The location of the shift lever is smack in the place of where the ashtray would go and I personally do not like that location near as much as the one where the stick is mounted further forward as I installed the kit in my BN1.

It may be a few days but I will try to get over to my warehouse and take pictures of both to post and send to you if you give me an email address.

I bought the adaptor as listed in the instruction booklet that came with your 5 speed. Then once you get it installed, see how it centers in the transission cover. I then took the shift rod and put a bend in it at the bottom (does not show) to move it about 3/4 inch. Not fits perfectly in the center of my BJ8 shift hole and shifts well. I also installed one in my BN4 and made sure the hole was forward of the ash tray.

Good additions to the car, if you live in a hot enviornment, it decreased the heat that comes in from the original transmission.
