BN6 Gearbox Question

Hello, I am looking for some information from one of you Healey gurus. I have a 59 BN6, and I am currently rebuilding the gearbox. After having stripped it all down, I found that the end of the mainshaft that sits inside the first motion shaft has been badly repaired at some point during it's life. I will be sending it off for repair, and as best I can measure the undamaged section, it appears to be .755 of 1 inch/ 755 thou. Can somebody please confirm this is the correct diameter?

As I said the car is a 59 BN6, but appears to have had a MK1 BN7 box put in it, should that make a difference.

Thanks

Attached is a picture with what I think you are asking.

Let me know if you need anything else!

Thanks,
Duane

Thanks very much for the picture. That's exactly what I was asking! Did you have that picture on file or happen to have the box apart and take it to answer the question?

As I said my car has a BN7 box in it (the laygear is definitely a BN7), either because it is a very late BN6 (which I would prefer), though much more likely that at some point in it's life it has been swapped over. I know that BJ8s and BN1s/2s had different first motion shafts, but I assume the sideshift gearboxes had the same measurement I was asking about??

Anyway, somebody I know had said that it should be .655 (off the top of their head) and your pic backs that up.

Thanks a lot.

I have a spare gearbox for my car, so I took it apart for the measurement!

According to Moss Motors, there are 4 different mainshafts for the 4 speed gearbox, but I do not know what the differences are.

1. BN2, BN4, BN6
2. BN7 & BT7 side-shift gearbox to (e)29D-H10543
3. BN7 & BT7 side-shift gearbox from (e)29D-H10544, BN7 & BT7 all center- shift gearbox, BJ7
4. BJ8
