BN4 rear reflector cone colour

Is there a consensus on the correct colour of the rear reflector 'cone' on the BN4s? Mine are sun-faded clear except the ring that is clamped by the chrome and that is amber.

The replacement ones only appear to come in red.

Anyone have any thoughts on what is the 'correct' colour?

The early Longingbridge run of cars had the amber "bullet" reflectors and the later BN4"s were red. There is no modern replacement for the rare amber lens.

Guess I'll have to make some myself then eh. Job for next week is to CNC cut a mould and cast them in UV stabilised urethane resin.

You might want to make a couple extras while you're at it. I get asked all the time where I sourced mine..........OEM installed, UK.

Dougie - Where was your car originally delivered? I had the impression that all cars delivered into the US had the red bullets while cars delivered to other destinations had the amber or red based on safety regulations in the destination markets. Just another unusual trivia item related to the Longbridge BN4

My car was imported to the US through the NorCal BMC dealer in San Francisco. It stayed in Cali until I brought it to Oregon.
 
Mine were originally red. 3/58 Abingdon built with Longdridge features. I find this stuff fascinating, just when I think I'm clear on what was made where and when I learn something new.

Thanks for the link Rich. I've been pondering whether to buy some and have decided to make them myself just because I like making things. It'll cost about ten times as much but that's all part of the fun eh.

Re Dougie and the earthquake- Chch is my hometown, although we moved to Auckland ten years ago so no issues here. Some of my old friends are having a bit of a hard time with workplaces cordoned off and schools closed but everyone I know is ok for now. The event will tip our country into recession again if it wasn't already and this was acknowledged today by the Reserve Bank cutting the benchmark rate to 2.5%, the equal lowest it has ever been. It is going to be a long hard road to recoverey and Chch will lose many of its heritage buildings and some 10,000 homes.
