BN2 versus later seats

This has probably been asked before, but can anyone explain the differences between the stock BN2 and later model seats? I am looking to replace the ratty old seats in my BN2. So would seats from the later cars fit? I also noticed that some folks have upgraded to Miata seats. Are there any other common modern upgrades? I like the seats in the new Mini but not sure if they would fit. Many thanks.

Owned since 1981.
Now running again after 22 years in storage!

Hmmm, As an aside, there is no such thing as a 1954 BN2. The BN2 began in late summer '55.
Anyway, if your Hundred seats are "ratty" you might first check out what good condition comfortable BN2 seats really are. They are deeper and have a bit better rake than later designs. Seats from later cars will bolt right in but are more upright with a somewhat flatter cushion in the later cars.
proper foams and covers corectly contoured and installed correctly are amazingly comfortable.

While were at it, can you contact me via private email with your and your car's numbers and data for the Hundred Registry?

:iagree: I "think" the seats in my early BN4 are the same as in a BN2, and I and my passengers think they are quite comfortable.

Not up on the BN1s and BN2s but be carefull, the early BN4 cars had wooden frames to their seats and they sat in deep ish metal tray frames, these were the same as the BN1 and BN2.
Later BN4 cars and all the rest after, had steel pans as the cushion base and had shallow seat frames for them to sit in.

I am guessing that the wooden frame type had deeper tray frames for additional support.

Thanks for the advice. Ultimately i will want to go with correct seats BN2 seats. But for now i am looking for a short term solution that wont break the bank. I was curious about what i might be able to pull out of a junkyard ( e.g. Mini seats) or whether i might be able to retrofit later seats. Looking at the Moss catalog, they dont seem to have the foam for the earlier seats. Moss suggests modifying the later seat foam material but i have no pattern to go by to make the modifications.

Rich, i will definitely send you the info i have for the registry. The car has no data plate but does have a what i think is a chassis number stamped on a simple piece of metal riveted to the firewall. I will send pictures this weekend so you can see. The title when i bought the car said it was a 1954. Maybe the title is wrong or maybe it really is/ was a BN1. I have alwyas thought it was a BN2 because it is a 4 speed and has the overdrive and key switch in the locations i always understood to be for a BN2. Maybe yall can help me sort all of that out.

Cheers.

Hey Richard,

You can get everything you need from the UK if not available over here. Try AH Spares at : www.ahspares.co.uk Used them for years and many times cheaper than Moss and others even after factoring in exchange rates and shipping. But I usually do a comparison on price.

Mike
