BN2 Body Number Question

A '56 BN2 purported to be a factory M popped up on Ebay today and I noticed something and wonder if anyone has any insight into it. I have a '56 BN2 as well and it is s#232975 and b#14099. The one listed is s#232978 and b#14154. I know mine is correct as all the cockpit coamings match as does the bonnet and boot lids. Does this make any sense, serial number 3 apart while body number 55 apart?

Just wondering.

Yes, it does. Body number is no correlation to VIN.

For an example, ten (10) numbered bodies could've been stacked into a transport with the lowest number first. At Longbridge, they could've been unloaded with the highest body number receiving the lowest VIN, of that ten (10) batch run.

Now imagine ten (10) transports pulling into the yard, and the one closest to the dock getting unloaded first.

Body numbers assigned by Jensen Bros. and VIN assigned at BMC.

Interesting though, to find a car so closely related to your own! There're a couple guys on here with cars that are twenty-some off from my VIN, so they could've been run through the plant on the same days.

Hi Steve,
Randy is right about how the body numbers can be quite off compared to chassis numbers. They can be even more off if the car was held back for any reason during the assembly process.
BTW, can you please send me your and your car's (BN2L 232975) particulars so I can enter it into the Hundred Registry records?

many thanks,

Rich Chrysler
