BN1 master cylinder assembly

In the quest of rebuilding a master cylinder I’m looking for a view or description of how the rubber seals and washer are installed. Can anyone help? The view in the Moss catalogue is not sufficient.

Hi Luke,
See if the attached pic helps.
There is one possible trouble spot. If the operating pushrod is not adjusted for a bit of slack in the released position, the relief hole between the cylinder & the fluid reservoir may be blocked so that the brake will not fully release. Even slight swelling of the rubber seal can cause partial blockage & failure of the brake to fully release.

My kit did not come with instructions. Essentially I need to know in what direction the open end of the rubber seal points as well as the direction of the little washer.

I thought the attached pic showed things clearly. The explanation of which way the parts go is pretty complete. What part don't you understand?

I got it figured out based on the decription. Thanks for your help !!!

dave, that is a great picture and complete description if you got it up close and personal but i for one could not see it well enough to read or be able to tell what direction the chevron rings/seals should face, strange cuz i got my kit from moss and it included a good pict. of all components. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

It was just a scan of a shop manual page. Done at low resolution to avoid using a huge amount of bandwidth. You can always go get a shop manual & see it up close if you use the proper glasses.

As far as which way parts go back in, folks who are interested in such, usually, take some notes on how it came apart. Additionally, the text, under ASSEMBLY tells which way round the seals go.

Sorry the material was not up to your standards. Next time, I will leave it out & just refer folks to you.
