BN1 Limited Edition Prints

Hate to be picky on such fine work, but your illustrations show a BN2 transmission. Don't worry about the BN3, only two have ever been confirmed & were development prototypes, after all.

Picky is good. To clarify, the images of the BN1 cars are shown as requested by each owner, including the selection of the later gearbox and clutch housing.

The significant visual differences I'm aware of between the BN1 and BN2 are a single piece clutch housing and gearbox, unpainted aluminum, and a shorter shift lever for the BN1 and 2-piece clutch housing and gearbox, painted green, with the shift lever being available placed for either left or right hand drive models for the BN2. There are other differences, such as the different 1st gear set-up, omission of the part line between the clutch housing and gearbox, and different overdrive ratios, that I've chosen not to include because I didn't feel them material to the artwork or to provide more focus on other elements of the work.

That said, every car I draw is a learning process, each one made better through the collective knowledge of the British car community. So, please, take me to school here (and I really mean it). What did I miss?

G'day David,
The BN1 shift lever is actually longer than the BN2 and the shift gate is located lower down on the LH side of the transmission. The rubber gaiter would be obscured by the transmission casing. The position of the lever does not change with the position of the steering wheel, but I believe the angle of the lever does change. Also, early BN2s had a very long shift lever.

Here's one of the shots of the BN1 clutch housing and gearbox I used to draw the parts in the illustration. At this point, I haven't received any BN1 orders requesting the original gearbox set-up (although I have it drawn) which leads me to believe changing over to the BN2 gearbox must have been a popular swap back in the day.

Here's a nice BN2 for Hans at the Healey Museum. Unusual color, no bumpers, Flamethrower spot lamp, windscreen in the upright position.

Hi David,
Beautiful work you do. I'm ordering one for my BN1 which still has the original clutch set up so if you have it drawn that way I'll order it as such. One question I have (and this won't deter me from purchasing the print) is that I'm ordering the print with the car number plate. My car is an early(ish) (June '54) car with the white plastic number plate instead of the black plate in the print. Do you have it drawn with the plastic plate? If not, will you have it drawn with the plastic plate? I think I've added a sample of that V.I.N. plate (not from my car) to this submission but I can get you a digital photo of my plate if needed. Again, I'm purchasing a print either way but it's just another one of those details that has your drawings above the rest.
Thanks Dave,
David.

David,

I do draw the BN1 with the original one-piece clutch housing and gearbox, just haven't had anyone order it that way (a bit odd I know). I'm happy to replicate the early number plate. You can upload pictures to the order form or e-mail them to me, whichever is most convenient.
