BN1 Boot Lid Bracket

All,

Looking to fabricate the bracket that links the boot lid support strut to the boot lid. (Image attached.) I require dimensions...

Also, does anyone have information to identify the proper style rivets that secure the rear shroud lower flanges?

Thank you very much,

John

Pretty sad that out of 57 viewers, I am the one to reply to my query...

So I will modify said request:

Can anyone fire me an image of the attachment bracket/hardware that links the support strut to the boot?

Thank you very much,

John

I believe they are 5/32" inch shaft dia., with a flat head. I looked in a lot of places--including aviation supply houses--and the only people that had the (nearly) correct ones were British Car Specialist. They were a bit too long so you'll need a rivet cutter.

Thanks, all. Will hit up BCS for the rivets--as well as ability to source the not-available "stay" bracket that is enticingly depicted in the Moss catalog.

Best,

John

John, Kilmartin (kas@ncable.com.au) is trying to get in touch with you.

I purchased my flathead rivits from BCS and a friend told me that they are supposed to be a round head instead of a flathead. My car is due to go to the Body shop on Aug. 13th so I hope I get this sorted before then.

From the Anderson/Moment Restoration Guide, p90:

"... The shroud was fastened to the rear superstructure assembly with aluminum rivets along the bottom edge of the trunk opening and on the bottom flange that attached to the trunk floor lip. These rivets were solid with flat heads ..."

My BJ8 was all original--with 64K miles--when I bought it and the rivet heads were flat, as were the ones I got from BCS.

The lower lip of the shroud where it attaches to the boot floor was hand-painted (with a brush) flat black at the factory.
