BN1 alternator conversion

I want to use a modern alternator on my BN1. Crank and water pump pulleys use wide belt. I have wide pulley from generator. Pulley shaft hole is 5/8 in.
Is there an alternator with a 5/8 in shaft for the original style pulley? What have others used to convert to an alternator? Help appreciated David

David--

I bought a Leece-Neville/Prestolite universal alternator which came with a two-piece pulley that I shimmed to accept a wide belt, thus saving me having to replace the other pulleys. Also, the alternator has an external regulator which would make it much easier to service, though I have been running it for about 60K miles and have yet to need the spare regulator. I believe it is a 75 amp unit and if you are interested I can try to find a model number or send a photo.

I installed a Gener-nator on my 62 BN-7. I don't know if the BN-1 has a different generator than the 3000, and if different, whether one could be retrofitted but it might be worth looking at their website.

Happy hunting,

Jeff
