Just wondering. I am told that there are two types of synchromesh transmissions - Locking and Proportional Load. My query: What type is in the BN-2? AND can someone explain these types to me.

Okay guys, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif stop laughing...I'm trying to learn, honest!

Hi Judy,
I believe that the terms "locking & proportional load" apply to specialized types of differentials, not to transmissions.

A conventional (open) differential will apply the driving power to the wheel that has the least traction. A locking type applies power equally to both both rear wheels when they are under power. A proportional differential applies power to the rear wheels in proportion to how much traction they have.

All of the standard factory Healeys had the conventional open differential.

Thank you for that info. AND thank you for not laughing at this mere female's query.

Happy Driving! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif
