BMC Special Tuning Data

I have a couple of copies of the BMC Special Tuning Data publication (Green Binder) I've noticed that it seems to cover just about all BMC cars that Special tuning / Works modifications were available for except the AH3000. It seems strange as the AH3000 was so highly developed by comps but nothing appears in this data. There are pages and pages for the Mini, Cooper S, MGA's, 1100's etc etc.

Is there a different BMC publication for the 3000 covering the works rally mods????

I've never seen anything from BMC like the Sprite Special Tuning Manual for the big Healeys. At most, I've seen a couple of different parts sheets for "approved" competition parts that seemed to be directed toward SCCA racing. I haven't seen anything at all directed toward the rally cars. There are also parts lists for competition parts that could be purchased directly from Healey. I've wondered myself why the "special tuning" stuff wasn't as well supported for the big Healeys as the Sprites.

From memory, it was the difference between BMC and Healey. Healey did the works prep for big Healeys. I don't think they gave the stuff over to BMC. I don't think they had to.

Bill,

As you probably know, Healey did the prep for the circuit cars, Le Mans, Sebring, etc at the Cape in Warwick. BMC Comps did the rally car prep at Abingdon. Maybe Healey worked out an agreement with BMC not to give any information developed for the big Healeys out to the public. The difference is pretty striking though. BMC gave out full part numbers and tuning details for Spridgets and Triumph did the same thing with Kas Kastner's Competition Prep manuals. Funny the only similar stuff I could find on the big Healeys were a few articles written in Sports Car Graphic.

Hello Cooperman -

That's a very good question... I have no idea why this information wasn't made public or made available to big Healey racers of the day. I've spend over 3 decades researching and compiling a library of information on this subject. Two books you might want to get are: https://www.amazon.com/BMC-BL-Competitions-Department-Motorsport-People/dp/1859604390 and https://www.amazon.com/Competitions-Department-Secrets-Marcus-Chambers/dp/1904788688

SHHHHH it was all top secret see :encouragement:

Bob

I'd like to say that the potent 3000 was all grown up, and those other cute cars needed all the help they could get...

A MGB buddy came up with this Build Sheet for one of the MGB Sebring racers that came out of the BMC Competitions Dept:

Wonder if there were any "build sheets" for the Healey rallye cars?

Rick, yes, there is one in the book Big Healeys in Competition. I was just looking at it last night. Maybe not a build sheet exactly, but a checklist of specifications if I recall correctly.
