If you moved from 5 to 16 degrees it is natural that the idle would go up quite a bit. Back it down to 950 and recheck the timing. You may have to do this once or twice in the process to get it on the money and then lock it down and reset the idle to 900-950 or whatever is close to that RPM and gives you a smooth idle with no stalling.
I have mine at 16 BTDC at 850-900 RPM and it sounds good and never stalls.
