Blizzard up-date!

How's everyone doing?

Here in Connecticut we had 25-33" snow, now 60mph winds causing 5 foot drifts. All roads and highways are closed but for emergency vehicles. It's still snowing and blowing. Won't this be fun to shovel ...

Here's my driveway at 8am Friday:

Now hoping the power, cable, cell service stays up.

Re: Blizzard up-date!

Heard from my sister in Boston this morning. She's okay, still has power for now at least. Here's the view from her condo.

Re: Blizzard up-date!

Heard from my parents in RI as well. They got about 2' of snow but never lost power. Hope y'all are doing as well up there.

Re: Blizzard up-date!

Still about 160 thousand without power. Going to be in single digits tonight. Big problem. Where in RI Drew?

Re: Blizzard up-date!

SNIP..Where in RI Drew?

Nothing in RI is more than 10 minutes from anything else in RI.

Source: I have relatives in RI.

Unless you're trying to get from the south side of Providence to the north side of Providence. In that case it can be an hour or two ...

Re: Blizzard up-date!

Here we go let's all pick on RI. Before anyone else says it, no we are not part of New York.

Re: Blizzard up-date!

It's Rhode Island, not Long Island after all...

Parents are in Smithfield, I grew up in North Scituate.

Re: Blizzard up-date!

I was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Providence.

P.S. What driveway?

Re: Blizzard up-date!

Still over 70 thousand without power. 10 degrees right now, roads are passable for the most part. Going to be a lot of frozen pipes when the power comes back on. We have been lucky never blinked.
Since we have a few people here with RI connections,at some point our paths have probably crossed.

Re: Blizzard up-date!

Here in Connecticut it's minus 7 at 7am. Dead calm outside, with completely clear sky. Took me over four hours to clear the driveway. We got more snow in 24 hours than since the record keeping started in 1897.

Governor has re-opened the highways, but the six lane interstates are now only one lane in each direction.

Sunny and 30 today - but more snow due on Monday, followed by sleet, followed by freezing rain, followed by rain, followed by ...

Re: Blizzard up-date!

You guys who choose to live up there are NUTS!

Tom,

..."if you have more rocks in head than you do in your driveway"....

...."you might be a redneck"...:jester:

Y'all stay warm.

Re: Blizzard up-date!

A few views around the house. Took an hour just to clear the end of the driveway. DOT doesn't like empty spaces, so the plows kept adding snow as they'd drive by.

Couldn't open doors after the blizzard. Had to climb out back window, then walk through drifts to clear door space.

Re: Blizzard up-date!

Ditto on the pics. About 24"here with hours of shoveling. Most of my cars are still buried.

Re: Blizzard up-date!

no we are not part of New York.

Proving my point, I was just watching the blizzard coverage on the Weather Channel and the announcer pointed to Coventry RHODE Island and said " and 18.5 inches in Coventry down on LONG Island". No wonder we get no respect.

When did that change take place?

Re: Blizzard up-date!

Ah yes, reminds me of the 7 years I spent in Great Falls, Montana! Plugging you car in at night was a must and most businesses had posts with plug-ins so employees could keep their cars plugged in. Would you believe I drive a Spitfire in those days!
