Bleeding clutch

I was going to bleed the clutch today after master replacement, and found the bleed nipple pointed right into the frame rail. I have a 5 speed conversion, not sure what kind it is, attached is a pic. Anyhow, can a person bleed the clutch slave with it not installed?

I'll go with no. with the 1500 at least the pressure of the clutch plate is what holds the slave in. However with mine I have been able to bleed it from the master end - air flows up. so, you may need to "hang" the Slave so that there is no place for air to pool, and pump it from the top.

alternative would be a speed bleeder then you wouldn't require a hose.

You could remove the slave and then devise a means to keep the slave cylinder piston completely pressed down in the bore, and then bleed it. But that sounds like a lot of work. I usually bleed it in place and clean up the mess afterwards since there is no room to get a hose over that bleed nipple. My cars have a Rivergate 5-speed adapter but use a spridget slave cylinder in the rivergate adapter cradle. Not really the best design, but it works.
