Blast from the past--Dave Russell

In going through some papers today I came across an old message from Dave Russell that I had printed out, a three-page dissertation on compression testing. As with most everything Dave wrote it was impressive with a few wry quips tossed in for good measure.

I believe Dave died in December 2009 and his passing left a big hole on the BCF--he knew plenty, shared his knowledge freely and helped a lot of people. Though I never met him face to face I spoke with him fairly often.

I'm getting my vote in for who I hope will be this year's recipient.

Dave Russell supplied the answers to numerous Healey questions for me. I was fortunate enough to meet him in person in Nelson, B.C. He was an outstanding individual; one who is dearly missed.

Ditto the above. He went to high school with the previous owner of my Healey and asked him many questions on my behalf. He was always excited to be a help others.

heck, Dave knew (and posted) the answers before we even thought up the questions!

I don't recall what the subject was, but I remember one (1) time posting a response to him that "it was a cold day in heck" because (for once) our opinion differed...

... clearly, there must've been two (2) right answers!

Yes, I miss him too; who else could answer my questions?

Dave was amazing. No doubt about that. He didn't just answer your questions; he also often made a technical drawing to go with the answer. I still have a couple that I printed.

I met him at the Healey Rendezvous in Nelson BC. He was surprisingly (to me) shy and soft-spoken. He almost seemed uncomfortable in a group, but he took it as personal assignment to get you the information you needed to solve problems and make repairs, and there wasn't anything that he didn't seem to know everything about.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dave in person in 2005. We were in Twin Falls Idaho for my wife's high school reunion and, since Boise wasn't that far from Twin, we arranged to drive up and meet Dave one Saturday afternoon. He was a remarkable fellow and will always be missed here on BCF!
