Blackening up windshield rubber moulding.

Good day all,
With my GT sitting outside for three winters, the black rubber moulding around the windshield, and the rear hatch window have turned kinda whitish looking and hard. They arn't cracked though. I can't afford to replace them, especially with getting the body work done during the winter.
Is there anything I can apply to them, to make them black again, such as a paint? What about the black bumper paint I used on my TR7 bumpers? That was in a spray can, but does it come in a tin?
Any ideas folks?

Thanks

There are several products on the market which should do the job for you, but they may need several applications before they work. I wouldn't advise using a paint, as I suspect that it may harm the rubber and stop it from doing that which it was intended to do.....namely, stop water getting in.

The first one is one that I should probably recommend you use. It's Black Magic, manufactured by Westley. Quite inexpensive, and it really does make the black rubber come up nicely. The second is from Griot's Garage, you can find the product here:-

Not the cheapest people, but I have found that their products do what they say and do it well.

I have been using "One Grand" brand rubber and vinyl conditioner, it really does the job on the old rubber.

I also use it on my tires, it doesn't leave them shiny or wet looking, just really clean.

I bought mine on the web from https://www.carcareonline.com/howto.aspx

It's excellent stuff, I'm sure you'll like it.

I used simple black shoe-polish on a Mini long ago and it stayed black for years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Good tip!! Also an awful lot cheaper! Wouldn't hurt to give it a shot.

Well, I just happen to have some left over from a Wedding a few years ago. (don't seem to use it on workboots or runners)
I will try a small area right now and see what the result is.
Thanks for the tips.

I use a product called 303 Aerospace protectant on my car. I use it on all the vinyle, plastic, and rubber pieces, including the tires. It actually works very well and protects everything from UV damage. It may take a few applications, but is has been as good a product as I have seen.

Did the shoe polish trick, and wow, does it ever bring it out. It looks great. The stuff I used says it is waterproof, so I will see after the first wash.
