BJ8 Windscreen Change

Hello friends,
I'm just about to change the windscreen. Have all parts apart and all rubber seals removed from the frame parts. I found that mainly in the frame corners under the rubber gaskets additionally a pasty black sealant (looks like bitumen) was used.
In most instructions I read that the rubber seals are inserted directly into the frame without additional sealing.
What are the experiences and what sealing materials should one possibly use.

I replaced my windshield a few years ago and found the same black paste spread thin in a few places. I just put the seals in directly with nothing else added. No issues!
