BJ8 tonneau cover attachment to heel board.

Can someone supply me with a picture of how the tonneau is supposed to attach to the heel board on a BJ8? My tonneau fits the car fine but not the heel board. My heel board has 4 LTD studs installed, two on each side of the drive line tunnel but they do not match the flaps on the tonneau cover. I don't know if my cover has the flaps sewed incorrectly or the LTD studs are wrong. The studs look like they are installed symmetrically on the heel board. Thanks and have a good day!

I'm not sure what a heel board is. Do you mean the space behind the seat, below the jump seats? If you mean that, the best way to attach it is to make new holes in the through the carpet into the space where the axle fits. You can easily reach to mount the pegs from behind but be careful of the plumbing mounted there. This looks nicer than moving the dot attachments. I hope that is what you meant.

Assuming you have the "gray" tonneau cover bar in place? Be sure the Tonneau cover is "warm" and not ice cold. A little bit of stretching is required to get it to fit the first time or after a winter hibernation.

John,
My studs are 4 inches and 12 inches from the rear interior panels. The outer (4 inch from panel) studs are about 1 1/2 inches below the bottom of the seat. The inner studs are about 2 inches below the bottom of the seat. For some reason the studs on the right side a fraction lower than on the driver's side.
As pointed out earlier, the grey tonneau bar must be in place for the best (tight) fit.
I also have the phase 1 BJ8. If you still need a picture, I can try to get you one.

Mine is a phase one also (25508 born Nov 63). I have not put the attachments on the tonneau yet (only had the cover 8 years)cause I need to reset the holes. John, thanks for the measurements. That is what I needed. Has anyone else any measurements that differ? I get to set the studs then put the holes on the cover. John seems to have to do it the other way as his cover is already has the "lift dots" mounted???

Thanks for the help. My car is also a phase I car that I restored (26580 born approx March/April 64). I placed the studs where they were originally and I guess I just need to relocate them to match the flaps on my tonneau. Also I made my "grey bar" and that my also change the location a bit. Thanks again and have a good day!

John
