BJ8 Rear Interior panel fitting

I am fixing to put the rear interior side panels in and I have found the 3 screw holes right beside the cloth covered door seal but I need to know if the screws have trim washers on the screws? And is there any other places where trim washers are used on the side panels? Jf so the approximate location.

Thanks
Leo

No other responses yet, so I'll give it a shot. The details about the screws and cup washers are sparse in Clausager, Anderson/Moment, and even the BMC BJ7/BJ8 parts manual. The parts manual says 8 each RJP 606 (raised countersunk chrome-plated #6 screws, 3/8" long and FWP 406 (#6 chromed-plated) cup washers are required, but location is not shown. I believe 6 of the 8 are for the leading edge of the rear side panels (3 each). Where the other two go, I don't know. The side panels are stiff and have the center secured by the rear seat belt anchor stud(s), so I don't see the need for more, nor do I have any in my BJ8.

Could the othe "2" be the ones that are at the bend in the fuzzy door seal where it goes to the rear interior panel?

Steve, how about posting some pictures???

Pat, I don't think so. I have a screw at the upper bend in the door seal, but only because I put one there. Although I had a hole at that location, there was no screw. Anyway, it doesn't go through the interior panel and therefore I wouldn't consider it as one of the 8 required by the parts book. The book could do a lot better job with the details.

I have seen several cars, several years ago, with a screw in the "bend". I believe they were flat head phillips screws and they were very small. I think they were installed to keep the fuzzy seal from coming off at the bend. Some how, some way, this brain cell survived several beer soakings.

Steve,

You are correct that the 3 screws with counter sunk washers attach the leading edge of the quarters. The last 2 screws with counter sunk washers are, as Pat indicated, at the bend of the door seal to secure it before the seal caps the quarter panel.

Ray, you are an original owner so you should certainly know. As I said, my car had no screws there but it did have the holes. I found that the seal would not stay in place without some "help" provided by the screw. I think a pan head type screw and flat washer is a much better choice for that application so that's what I used.
