BJ8 Production Numbers

Hi All,

Attended a Bitish Car Expo in Houston yesterday. A number of us belonging to the Gulf Coast Healey Club attended. An unknown Healey owner showed up with his 1967 BJ8. As I also own a 1967 BJ8, we talked aout his and where/when he obtained it. He said his wife bought it for him just recently (another story here). He had the British Birth Cerfificate which listd the VIN which was only 45 BJ8's away from my VIN.

So the question is does anyone have statistics on how may BJ8s were manufactured per day/week/month in 1967.

Wondering if both vehicles were built the same day?

Thanks

Bob

The BMHIT (or somesuch acronym) lists the day(s) the car was built. A guy on here once had a BN6 that was built either the day before or the day after mine.

Since you saw his "birth certificate" I'm assuming that you don't have one for your car; with it, it would pinpoint how close the production days were.

Cue: Steve Byers for more specific data...

In 1957 they could produce about 200 per week. See recent(today), BCF Post about the assembly line.

Hello Bob,

Randy is correct, contact Steve Byers at this sites Bj8 register. I have talked to Steve many times via email, and steve really knows how to track our bj8 cars down. In fact Steve Byers found my 2 sister cars that where on the assembly line in front and back of my car and sent me a picture of the car and original owner. I sent Steve some original shipping documents i got with my 1967 BJ8, Seems my car and its 2 sister cars where heading to chicago. However, My car was pulled from the line and shipped to spain by special request, Spent 2 years in spain and was shipped to the Balibo port in New York, Then taken to Indiana and owned by a high ranking U.S steel offical. Steve Byers even tracked down the cruse ship my car came back from spain on and sent me a picture of the ship and its details. Seems the owner was enjoying a nice cruse back to the states while the Healey was safely stowed away on board with him! I bought this Healey on ebay with only 39,000 miles on it! Solid as a rock all original and runs great! Anyway, Contact Steve Byers, He is really a nice gentleman to talk with. Michael, IL.
