BJ8 plug in cap.

Just replaced BJ8 distributer cap. I have an igniter. Car would not start after 30 min. Checked cap, the center carbon lead was worn down to flush. Checked with Moss, they hadn't heard of this before and are sending a replacement free. His anyone had this problem?. Thanks, Ken and Susan

Be sure the area surrounding the carbon button isn't itself rubbing on the rotor. There should be some clearance there.

Maybe the ignitor is burned out - look for blistering on the label on the element. Blistering means it's been fried. If the ignitor isn't fried, maybe the coil's no good.

Pertronix has a sheet on their website of how to troubleshoot without frying the ignitor. You may be able to ascertain whether you have spark or not. If so, then it's a matter of timing - maybe the distributor is in the wrong place.
