Hello from south aust. i wish to make a new dashboard(s)for a bj8, mine are so water damaged and are beyond repair. Question? on the original dashboard is the walnut veneer applied to both sides of the instrument piece and to both sides of the glovebox surround or is the veneer only applied to one side of both pieces. it is my belief that the glovebox door is veneered both sides. yes i know a new set can be purchased, but i get a great kick out of making my own replacement parts.

. it is my belief that the glovebox door is veneered both sides.

That is correct. However, all the remainig pieces are only veneered on the front side.

Similarly, pay carefull attention when you install your new veneer as both the left hand and the right hand dash panels are Mirrored OK.-Fwiw-Keoke

yes i know a new set can be purchased, but i get a great kick out of making my own replacement parts.

My original dash panels have veneer on both sides of the glove box door. It makes no difference elsewhere. The finish is not as nearly refined on back side as the front. You could acquire a piece of burl walnut plywood or lay new veneer on existing plywood. If it was not for a small piece of veneer missing on my glove box door, I would leave the original patina finsih it now has.
