BJ8 Measurement

Can anyone help me? I’m restoring a phase 2 BJ8 and the rear end was totally rusted away.

The measurement I need is from the side of the transmission tunnel to the side of the radius arm box, as the replacement heel board does not seem correct.

Thanks.

Not clear, is the frame complete end to end?

Cssxp4UWAAAadhR (1).jpgYes frame is done just trying to work out the position of the radius arm box on the heel board , i know the correct height , just need a measurement from the tunnel across the heel board to the edge of the box, The heel board is not the correct shape and the pressing and folds are just wrong
Sorry line not very good but the is what i need to know
Just trying to get the radius arm boxes in the correct place the i can match up the inner wheel arches etc
Other option is to fit the axle and work out from there
Thanks

You would be safest fitting the axle, installing the radius arms in place and using that to locate the boxes. Safer to do that on your own car than go with someone else's measurements.

Adam, as I believe Steve was indicating, from my experience building a bj7 the measurements are not that exacting from car to car. I believe there can be quite a variance in the position of the trans tunnel on different cars. If I was to ask for a measurement from another car I believe I would ask for the distance from the outer edge of the frame rail to the radius arm center. Parallel to and along the run of the outrigger. And then I still would not put it in until I had the axle in place and made some comparisons/judgements.

By the way, Nice Work.

I'm no help. Just wanted to say that the car looks great!
