BJ8 Idling very rough w/ odd sound - Now w/ VIDEO!

Re: BJ8 Idling very rough w/ odd sound on acclerat

I have removed the fan belt on other vehicles (and tractors) to check the fan belt, generator and various other devices. It is a simple way. Sarge

You bet Sarge, that Healey (Austin) engine is more akin to a tractor than anything else anyway. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

Re: BJ8 Idling very rough w/ odd sound on acclerat

I've been pretty busy and haven't had time to work on the Healey. I'm back now. I started up the Healey today and took it around the neighborhood a few times. It ran okay. It never died but didn't run very smoothly. I can definitely tell the whining noise is coming from the fan belt area. The fan belt seems tight, but not too tight. I think I may need to take it off and check the water pump. What would be the best way to do that? Any pointers?
Thanks!

Hi Brandon BJ8, Just loosen the generator enough to allow the belt to slip off the pulley, then work the belt free of the Vibration damper and the water pump to free it from the car.If you grab the fan and try to wiggle the pump shaft any play in the shaft can assert water pump eminent failure.Check that the noise is also gone.---Fwiw---Keoke-- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif
