Bj8 higher ratio gears

Following your diagnosis in these post last Autum I decided to have my problamatic overdrive rebuilt by a professional in Rugby UK. At the same time he fitted the gears from an older car which are listed as 28% rather than the Bj 8`s 22%. Having re fitted it all recently it seems to be a great improvement in gear ratios without resorting to a new diff. Basically in O/drive 4th the rev counter and speedo needles are now in virtually the same plane.

Hi Dave, it sounds like a good way to do it. Especially if you have to rebuild your trans/od anyway. I recently ordered a new set of 3:54:1 rear end gears from Mike Lempert. He is now in the process of putting a new order together. My transmission and overdrive are in good order so I think for me the new rear gears will be a good way to go.
