Question concerning BJ8 gearbox. I wish to know the clearance or tollerance of the sliding hub for second gear. Whith reference to the Moss parts catalouge, page 58, item number 40(gear,first,SLIDING HUB).If I am correct the Austin Healey manual gives this tollerance(end float) as.007", what would be the maximum allowable. Is there any way to reduce this end float after fitting a new syncro ring,or is it not worth considering. thanks trevor S

I do not think you will be confronted with any clearance problem provided:

1] The shift lever gates are in good condition
2] The buffer pad is installed in the bell housing and is in good condition
3] the shifter rail ,it's detent and locating ball/ spring assembly are in good condition
4] The brass shifter has not become excessively worn
