BJ8 front seat redo?

I am interested in redoing my front seats in my '67 BJ8, (in black vinyl as it was originally). I know in the past the big suppliers, (Moss, VB), carried new seat foam but it was too firm and you sat higher then the correct height. Anyone have any insight or have done their seats over?
THanks
Ed

I put Moss foam in my BJ8 a few--well, many--years ago and felt I sat too high. However, in a few thousand miles the foam compressed to a 'normal' position and, after tens of thousands of miles I need new foam.

Any good upholsterer can trim the foam to fit; you might be able to do it with an electric carving knife (never tried it myself). Some drill holes in the foam to make it softer.

Hi Wango - based on our experience, what you've noticed and what Bob is saying are spot-on. The seats do ride a little high in the beginning, but over time come down to what you'd expect.

Thank you

Mike

I have refurbished the metal pans and put new foam in. Some where on this site, people were using small cans to cut holes in the foam to make it feel softer, I just cut about 1 inch off the bottom so that I could get my legs under the steering wheel. I left the passenger side uncut and the difference in height was not that noticeable. It was firm to start and I must confess that I liked it, however, it has softened over the few years since I did it.

Yes the seat foams are too stiff and require altering to fit the covers.
Either the late Norman Knock or David wrote an article using the small can technique and how to relieve the foams to accept the covers.

Randy, I just had my BT7 seats redone complete with new foam. I find the finished product to hard and want to drill holes in the bottom like you did. Could you give me the diameter and depth of the holes you drilled. Would you do it the same way again?
