BJ8 exhaust question

Hello all,
I haven't been too active in the last 6 months other than a
question on paint colors but solved that as I just purchased
a nice Colorado Red 66 BJ8 and starting to look at a few
projects. Question on the exhaust system for the BJ8's -
I know the standard is the system with front and rear
mufflers & exiting on the right side but was wondering can you install the system used on a BJ7 ? I ask this as based on a 100-6 I sold earlier this year, I had more clearance with that exhaust system versus the BJ8 standard system and as we have speed bumps all over the place where I live, clearance is a real issue. The current system is rather
long in the tooth so if I have to replace I might go with
a BJ7 system if it will work.

One other question, has anyone ever seen the seat frame
where it has been modified to raise the height of the
entire frame ? Guess one of the earlier owners must have
been pretty short as it is raised up a good inch.

Looking forward to this great exhange of ideas again.
Regards,
Mike

I have a 1966 BJ8 with a BJ7 stainless exhaust installed by the previous owner. I have NO clearance issues and I LOVE the way it sounds. They can be ordered from all of the usual suspects.

Hi BHSource, Just make sure and inquire of the vendor whether the intermediate mufflers are round or oval in shape. Round mufflers, BJ7-or-BJ8, seem to produce a clearance problem when installed on the BJ8 car. Additionally, they may ring when the baffles in the round muffler loosen and vibrate.--Fwiw--Keoke-- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cowboy.gif

Thanks Greg ! My 100-6 sounded great so I would think the
BJ8 will sound very similar.

Mike

Thanks Keoke - I have read many of your posts and
will make sure about the type of mufflers supplied by
Moss or whoever I use.

Mike

I have no clearance issues with my BJ8 and it's exhaust system... but then again I made sure my springs and suspension were all properly set up. If your suspension is worn out and your bushings are soft, then maybe the BT7/BJ7 will be better for you.

By the way I like the way the BJ8 system sounds... It still has all the right notes without irritating the heck out of my neigbors!

Oh! BHSource, I missed the other question. Yes I have seen spacers used to raise the height of the seat. More common though is a spacer of some sort used to only raise the front edge of the seat in an attempt to produce a more ergonomic fit. There are pictures in the archives of the latter type.--Fwiw--Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cowboy.gif
